2005 Victorian Country Championships - Geelong |

The weekend of the 28th saw 25 athletes from Wodonga Athletic Club along with parents and supporters make the trip to Geelong for Countries.
What an outstanding weekend. When the dust settled after a little over two days competition, WAC had amassed 55 Medals and finished 4th overall in the point score. What a fabulous effort from the club, considering our size and the distance we had to travel to compete.
Throughout the weekend the team spirit was evident, with all members and supporters gathering to cheer on their team mates no matter the conditions. Once again we had the support of the “Ballarat Boys” who became our unofficial fan club. They celebrated our successes even more vocally than we did, if that was possible.
The accommodation for the weekend was” friendly” at the caravan park with all members in close proximity to each other, which was good. Sorry Janet and Kate if you were kept awake !!!!
Over the course of the weekend there were some outstanding performances and efforts by the club:
The downside to the weekend was the serious accident Bill Barker had pole vaulting. Bill is in the process of a complete recovery which is pleasing, and we all wish him well.
The final medal tally was: 11 Gold 19 Silver 25 Bronze
These were collected by 21 individuals and 2 relay teams. Again, what an outstanding team performance.
Congratulations Wodonga on an excellent performance.
