16 Athletes from Wodonga Athletic Club competed at Victorian Country Athletic Championships held at Newborough in Gippsland over the Australia Day weekend.

A total of 13 individual Gold, 10 Silver and 16 bronze medals were achieved as well as 2 Gold and 1 Silver in 4 x 100 m relay events.

Performances of special note were Gold in the under 16 Women’s High Jump by Lara Friesen with a jump of 1.40 metres and Graeme Brown winning the Under 20 Men’s 800 metres Gold medal in a time of 2 minutes 14.51 seconds.

Karen Sheehan competed in 8 events in the Veteran 40 plus Women’s category taking home 6 Gold and 2 Silver whilst Don Chambers, in the Veteran 50 plus Men’s took part in 11 events for 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

22 Clubs from across Country Victoria were represented. Although Wodonga’s team was considerably smaller in number than a lot of other teams it still managed to place third in the overall aggregate based on results.
